I was commissioned by producer Debbie Beeks and Ryton Federation Junior School to co-create a videogame about Addison: a lost village near Ryton, Tyne and Wear. You can play the game at this link.
Addison was one of 121 ‘Category D’ villages, pit villages in County Durham that were seen as ‘beyond economic sustainability’ when collieries closed. Abandoned and demolished in 1963, Addison is now woodland.

The project involved working with children in years 3,4,5 and 6 to create a videogame exploring the lost village with a focus on working class women heroes. The children had already conducted research into the village; my role was to work with them to create all the artwork for the game, including sound, images and models.

I used mobile photogrammetry app Polycam to translate the physical, cardboard and clay models the children had made of buildings and people into 3D models. Motion capture and autorigging software Accurig was used to animate the characters.

The project was produced by Debbie Beeks and funded by Historic England.
